Paris – the city of romance, of drama, of sightseeing, of light, and most of all – of art.  The French city which has been home to revolutions, musical and dramatic celebration, religious excellence and ground-breaking urban regeneration has also been the setting for some of the world's most famous art movements.  When one hears the name Claude Monet, Henri Matisse, or Pablo Picasso, one instantly thinks of France, and more specifically, Paris.  The Impressionist movement, Romanticism and Expressionism – all drew inspiration from Paris, and it is from this city that they flourished and gained in popularity.  Paris is also home to some of the world's most famous art museums, which in turn exhibit some of the greatest art works of all time.  It is thus of little surprise that a city of such incredible beauty and fame should also be thought of as the capital of art.

If you are lucky enough to be travelling to Paris as a tourist or visitor, or are even more fortunate to call Paris home, your time in the French city will not be complete until you have spent some time soaking up the art that is on offer.  It doesn't matter what movement or mode you're interested in, whether you are an expert or novice art enthusiast, Paris has something for everyone.  If you can, it is well worth spending a few days wandering through the immense art museums and galleries – preferably with a tour guide if you are just beginning to learn about art – so that you can get a sense of just how important art has been throughout the centuries.  Nowhere is this easier to do than in Paris, the city of art and artistic endeavour.
