Parisian Art

notre dame Although Paris is renowned for being the centre of the art world, the city has also got plenty more to offer tourists and visitors – it is also world famous for architecture and culture, food and fashion.  If you are journeying to Paris and you have a few days spare, it is a good idea to see as much as you can!

The most famous of sights is of course the Eiffel Tower – it has become a symbol for Paris and France even though many Parisians dislike the structure.  It dominates the skyline and is lit up at night for the entertainment of tourists.  With an observation deck (soon to be extended for the anniversary of it's construction), it provides a great view over Paris.  On par with the Eiffel Tower is of course the Arc de Triomphe which dominates the centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle.  Also regarded as a symbol of Paris, it is a monument which celebrates those who fought for France in battles such as those which took place during the Napoleonic Wars.

From a historical point of view, it is well worth visiting Notre Dame and Sacre Coeur – two of Paris's most famous cathedrals.  Both have been featured in literature and film – the Notre Dame, of course, was the setting for the famous 'Hunchback of Notre Dame', whilst Sacre Coeur has most recently been mentioned in Joanne Harris' 'Lollipop Shoes', the sequel to Chocolat.
