Parisian Art

paris art todayParis is known as being the city of love, the city of lights, and the city of art.  Hundreds of thousands of tourists flock to the French city each year to visit the many museums and galleries which line it's streets.  Fashion, too, has made it's mark on Paris, and many consider it to be one of France's most popular art forms in modern times.

Although the art movements which are forerunners of today's art world have found niches elsewhere – in the United States, the UK, and in the rapidly commercializing Eastern countries – Paris is still thought of as being the centre of art as we know it.  Perhaps it is because of the many art museums that make Paris famous – the Louvre, for instance, is home to one of the largest and perhaps most recognized collections of art the world over.  Perhaps it is because Paris has historically been so important to art – particularly as it was home to artists like Monet and Matisse, and was at the frontlines of movements such as Impressionism.  Perhaps it is because Paris willingly trades off of the world obsession with art, advertising itself as a city of incredible beauty and artistic flair.  Whatever the cause, Paris is still one of the most important cities in the world for art and artists, and this is why so many fledgling artists travel to Paris each year to study in the many art schools and institutions that call the French city home.
